What is Qigong?
Qi is your body's vital energy. Gong is discipline. Qigong is the practice or discipline of moving or cultivating the vital energy.
Qigong is an ancient Chinese health system which integrates specific physical posture, breathing techniques, and focused intention.
You can use Qigong to increase your qi. This is very beneficial for those who are tired all the time. You can also use Qigong to move your Qi. In Chinese Medicine, it is said that all pain and disease come from the stagnation of Qi. Therefore, does it not make sense that you can control your pain and/or disease with breathing, movement, and focused intent? Regular daily practice of Qigong is also beneficial for cleansing and healing the body, the mind, and the spirit. This is a highly effective health care practice. It can improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions, reduce stress, calm the mind, increase focus and awareness.
There are hundreds of Qigong forms and practices. The soft, internal forms can be used by ANYONE, young or old, no matter how ill or tired one may be. Forms can be tailored for your own personal use. For instance, I do a daily standing, 50 minute practice at the beginning of my day. For someone who is too weak to stand, you may feel free to do the forms sitting, or even laying down if you are seriously ill. If you cannot practice for 50 minutes, then practice for ten minutes or five minutes until you begin to gain the strength to practice longer. The longer you practice, the stronger and healthier you will become.
Oftentimes, people practice for two or three hours a day. This practice is usually done by those who are interested in the hard, external forms, such as Kung Fu.
